Robert H. Fowble (1921 - 1999)

Robert Henry Fowble was born in El Centro on January 11, 1921. Between 1944-46 QM2c Fowble served on active duty with the US Naval Reserve. Following his BS degree from San Diego State College in 1949, he completed his Masters of Architecture at MIT in 1952.

Near the same time that fellow San Diego architects Fred Livingstone and Arthur Decker were working for Kistner, Wright & Wright Architects & Engineers in Los Angeles, Fowble served as the firm's Senior Designer (1952-53). Between 1953-54 he worked as Job Captain for the Los Angeles firm Allison & Rible Architects. Coming to San Diego shortly thereafter he secured work as Structural Designer, Specification Writer and Job Captain for Frank L. Hope (1954-56).

The young architect hung out his own shingle as Robert H. Fowble, Architect in 1956 - the same year he joined the AIA’s San Diego Chapter. Fowble’s office was located at 1215 Cushman Avenue. While practicing, Fowble also served as Assistant Professor at San Diego City College.
