Mission Beach

Degroote House (1961)
Designed by Hal Sadler (Tucker, Sadler & Associates)
3361 Ocean Front Walk
Comments: A graduate of the USC School of Architecture, as well as a former employee of Case Study architect, A. Quincy Jones, Sadler was heartily influenced by the California Modernism movement. This redwood house’s ocean-facing (sliding) walls of glass display its extra high ceilings, a challenged posed by its original (basketball player) client. Situated on a small 35-foot wide lot on the PB/Mission Beach boardwalk.

Kendrick Bangs Kellogg House & Studio (1960)
Designed by Kendrick B. Kellogg
838 Balboa Court
Comments: The sprit of the walled enclosures of space is Schindler-esque; the detailing is inspired by Wright.

Babcock House (1959)
Designed by Kendrick B. Kellogg2695 Bayside Walk
Comments: Wrightian vocabulary with a vengeance. The siting and planning are both highly ingenious, despite Real Estate agents interpreting its interior spaces as complex inefficient for everyday living.

David Porter Apartments (1962)
Designed by Homer Delawie
