John Thomas Sigurdson

After attending the North Dakota School of Forestry, John secured his BS in Architectural Engineering (1951). While serving in the Navy Reserve (1952-61), Sigurdson worked for Frank L. Hope & Associates, Wulff & Fifield, as well as Paderewski, Mitchell & Dean. Thereafter, he worked alongside Robert Des Lauriers as Des Lauriers-Sigurdson, AIA (1961-67) after which he launched his own office.

John Sigurdson was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on July 2, 1929. Following his time at the North Dakota School of Forestry (1947-48), he secured his BS in Architectural Engineering in 1951. While serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve (1952-61), Sigurdson’s early career saw him working for Frank L. Hope & Associates, Wulff & Fifield, as well as Paderewski, Mitchell & Dean & Associates prior to working alongside Robert Des Lauriers as Des Lauriers-Sigurdson, AIA in 1961

John remained with Des Lauriers through 1967 when he split off to launch his own office. According to Bob, "During the 6-year period of Des Lauriers-Sigurdson, the architectural practice intensified and developed projects with even more fervor and dedication to make contemporary architecture a lasting scheme.”
