Donald Schoell

Architect | 1930

Donald Schoell served in the US Army during 1954-1956 before graduating from Syracuse University (in 1954) and earning the Henry Adams Award for Excellence in the Study of Architecture. He attended USC while working for Honnold & Rex Architects (1957-58) before moving to San Diego to work for Mosher & Drew Architects (1958-59) and later launching Schoell & Geritz (in 1959) with Eugene Geritz.

Donald Schoell was born in N. Tonawando, New York on June 18, 1930. He served in the US Army during 1954-1956 before securing his Bachelor’s in Architecture from Syracuse University (in 1954) - the same year he was awarded the Henry Adams Award for Excellence in the Study of Architecture (by the AIA). Don attended graduate classes at USC in City Planning while working as a Designer and Draftsman for Honnold & Rex Architects in Los Angeles (1957-58).

Mr. Schoell moved to San Diego to work as Job Captain for Mosher & Drew Architects (1958-59) before he joined the AIA and launched Schoell & Geritz (in 1959) with Eugene Geritz. Their office was initially located on 317 14th Street in Del Mar.

By 1970, the firm changed its name to Schoell, Geritz, Paul & Allard, Inc. with the addition of Robert Stephen Paul and Arthur Dewey Allard Jr. joining the team and moved to 3230 Fifth Avenue in San Diego.
