Welton Becket was born in Seattle, Washington on August 8, 1902. He secured his Bachelor's of Architecture degree from University of Washington in 1927.

While in Los Angeles, by 1933, he launched the partnership of Plummer, Wurdeman and Becket with Walter Wurdeman and Charles Plummer. Following Charles Plummer’s death in 1939, the firm of Wurdeman and Becket developed the concept of 'Total Design,' where their firm would be responsible for planning, engineering, interiors, furniture, fixtures, landscaping, and signage etc.

When Wurdeman died in 1949, the firm name changed to Welton Becket and Associates. His was one of the largest architectural offices in the world by the time of his death in 1969.
